System Requirements
For the server which will be used to host Head Office Server and Enterprise Live:
- Pentium 4 processor 2 GHz + (3+ GHz recommended)
- 512 Mb RAM(1+ Gb recommended)
- 5 Gb free hard disk space (10+ Gb recommended)
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, 2000 Server, ORXPProfessional operating system All available Service Packs and security updates must be applied
- External backup device (e.g. tape)
- Network card
- CD-ROM drive
- Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 / 6.0 installed
- Microsoft SQLServer 2000 (8.0) installed
- Internet access via a high-speed broadband connection (e.g. cable or DSL)
- Remote access via Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop, Symantec pcAnywhere 10.5 or VNC installed, configured and tested. This is required for future upgrades, monitoring and support.
- Reliable network and security with a static IP address, accessible directly by each Salon server machine over the Internet or LAN (Local Area Network) or WAN (Wide Area Network), using HTTP through port 80 or HTTPS through port 443. A firewall is recommended, along with anti virus software.
- FTP port 21 opened for access to Shortcuts upgrades and support material.
- Reliable backup solution (e.g. Microsoft Backup Exec)
The following are optional for the server:
- RAID
Redundant Array of Independent Disks - a performance enhancing method
of storing the same data in different places on multiple hard disks. Recommended
for chains or franchises with five or more POS sites, or those who plan to
grow to that size.
- Redundant/Backup Power Supply
To prevent down-time. Recommended for chains
or franchises with five or more POS sites, or those who plan to grow to that
size.
- Back-up server, also meeting the above minimum hardware requirements
- Microsoft Excel XP/2003
Head Office Server allows easy bulk importing of
products and services, using Copy/Paste components from Microsoft Excel.
- Crystal Enterprise
If you are a medium to large chain group, and will have
more than five concurrent report users, you will need to purchase Crystal
Enterprise. See http://www.businessobjects.com/ for

HEAD OFFICE CLIENT COMPUTERS
The computer(s) which will have Head Office
installed (but not the database):
- Pentium III processor 1 GHz
- 128 Mb RAM
- 1 GB free hard disk space
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional (recommended) or 2000 Professional operating
system. All available Service Packs and security updates must be applied
- Network card, with appropriate network connection to the Server
- CD-ROM drive
- Reliable network and security, with appropriate anti-virus software, if
not supplied via the Server.
- Microsoft Excel XP/2003
Head Office Server allows easy bulk importing of
products and services, using Copy/Paste components from Microsoft Excel.
