System Requirements

Shortcuts Software, like any other computer software, needs certain hardware components or other software resources present on a computer in order to run efficiently. Shortcuts defines these pre-requisite system requirements as follows:

1. Minimum - the least system requirements that may be supported by Shortcuts. For best performance, the recommended specifications should be used.
2. Recommended - the preferred system requirements suggested as a guideline to run the software optimally. Although not essential, they can provide a better experience of software usability. Shortcuts will only support performance related issues if clients are running the recommended hardware specifications.
3. Supported - not the recommended system requirements but Shortcuts may provide support if any issues are experienced in running Shortcuts software.
4. Not supported - Shortcuts does not support these system specifications as they may have been found to be incompatible during systems testing e.g. Home version operating systems or systems no longer supported by the manufacturer e.g. Windows 98.

Always check the system requirements prior to applying a new or upgraded version of Shortcuts. The system requirements may change with newer or upgraded versions of software, particularly with additional functionality. For example, new functionality may need higher processing power that increases the system requirements. 

WHAT DO SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE?

• Hardware or physical computer resources selected for their compatibility. These consist of:
  • the architecture for which the operating system is designed,
  • the power of the central processing unit (CPU),
  • the memory or RAM (Random Access Memory)which is defined for optimal performance taking into account running processes in a multi-tasking computer system,
  • secondary storage or hard disk requirements,
  • the display adapter for computer graphics display and peripherals such as pointing devices e.g. mouse, joystick, touchpad, touchscreen, etc., keyboards, CD/DVD-ROM drives, printers, receipt printers, etc.
    
    
• Software resources which need to be installed on a computer to provide optimal functioning of an application. These requirements or pre-requisites are generally not included in the software installation package and need to be installed separately before the software is installed. These include:
  • the operating system such as Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 7,
  • a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, and
  • API (application programming interface that allows interaction with other software) and Drivers for special hardware devices.
    
    
• Other requirements for proper performance which may include:
  • Internet Connection type and speed e.g. broadband internet, ADSL, wireless, etc.
  • the display screen resolution, and
  • anti-virus software.

Shortcuts may charge additional fees to undertake investigations for non-recommended Operating Systems.
